Hello Roots,
From news of the disaster hit the airways, we have
been listening keenly to understand the situation, and to see how the
international community, especially Canada intends to help Haiti at
this time. We have been on the phones with local news reporters, and
have been in contact with various members of the Brock community to
push for a university wide initiative to raise funds and collect goods
to help the Haitian people.
There will be a meeting on Friday
between various clubs, faculty, staff, independent students, and
members of the Niagara community to determine exactly what the school
is going to do. At this time co-ordination is very important. All
proceeds will go to the Red Cross.
The meeting will be held in
the international students lounge, myself and another executive member
will be representatives of the club. If anyone desires to attend
independently, the meeting will be held at 10 AM.
I would like
to take this time to say that we haven't been silent out of negligence,
we've realized that we can not help Haiti on our own, and as a result
we are aligning our actions with that of the wider community.
You
will be kept posted, if you have any ideas for raising funds, please
send me a message ASAP and I will present your idea at the meeting on
Friday.
We need to pray for Haiti.
